I ran into a friend the other day, and she had had plastic surgery since the last time I saw her. I didn’t say it out loud, but my first thought was, “Oh, no! What did you do to your beautiful face?”

We’ve all seen it: Plastic surgery gone bad… Over-swollen lips. Stuck eyes. Expressionless forehead.

As we all age together, I’m seeing more and more friends go under the knife. As for me, I think of aging gracefully as an art. I’ve found there are two great ways to preserve my youthful looks without taking drastic or irreversible methods:

  1. Botox®. I’ve gotten Botox for time to time to temporarily improve the look forehead lines, crow’s feet and frown lines between my eyebrows. The doctor used a harmless topical numbing cream then made five quick injections into my forehead. It literally felt like tiny pinches, nothing more. Then he made three more fast, nearly painless injections near the muscle that frames the side of each of my eyes. Within just a day, my wrinkles were significantly diminished and stayed that way for four whole months.
  2. Juvéderm® Lip Fillers. For a few years now, I wanted my lips to look fuller and more youthful, so I finally took the plunge. I was totally confident that it was safe; in fact, it has one of the the best safety ratings of all the fillers currently available. (That’s why you hear so much about it.) My doctor and I agreed to treat just my mouth this time, but it’s can be used for any area of the face, including lines around the nose and forehead. Like Botox, it’s just a series of simple injections. And it can be combined with Botox for more dramatic effect. I was done in just one visit, and I love the way I look. Plus, the effects lasted for a whole year!

I’m not following the crowd anymore. I’m committed to aging gracefully, to embracing my natural beauty and to only using the safest most trusted approaches to enhancing my looks.
